The story of McDonald’s handing out a bag of cash is catching a lot of of people’s attention. It sounds like it could be an Internet rumor, but it is true. UPI reported Thursday that a couple from Tennessee were indeed the recipients of a bag full of money from a McDonald’s restaurant. But before you rush down to your local McD’s, it was an accident.
The couple, Greg and Stacye Terry, got the bag of money when they visited a McDonald’s drive-through in Hermitage, Tenn. But instead of a meal, they got a bag of cash. The couple said it was part of their usual breakfast routine. They did not open what they thought was their breakfast order until they returned home Thursday.
"My husband opened the bag and discovered the money inside," Stacye Terry told WTVF-TV "He said, 'You are not going to believe this.' Sure enough, it was their bank deposit money.
"The second that he said it was their deposit, my first thing was let's get in the truck and take it back," she said. "There is no other way to have it. I couldn't live with myself."
McDonald’s as you can image, was relieved that the Terrys returned the bag of money.
McDonalds Owner and Operator Phil Gray issued this statement in response to the Terry's actions: "We are grateful for this customer and the action they took upon realizing our error. We are looking in to why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part a community with the values that were evidenced by this person's actions."
There is no word on whether McDonald’s might offer the couple any kind of reward.
The Terrys said they will not be deterred from visiting McDonald’s despite the order mixup.
"We'll be back," Greg Terry said. "But, next time I'm sure we'll leave with our normal breakfast order.
"This will never, ever happen again in our lifetime," he added.
McDonald’s is not saying how much money was in their wayward bag of cash, but as they say, all’s well that ends well and congratulations Greg and Stacye Terry for doing the right thing.
