The Rotary Club of Irvington held its annual Book Fair at the McDonald's on Springfield Ave in Irvington, NJ.
The Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and around the globe. The 1.2 million Rotarians who make up more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in nearly every country in the world share a dedication to the ideal of Service Above Self.
On this day, the Irvington branch of the rotary club exercised their service above self by giving away books and book bags to each child that was present.
The children that attended this event were enthralled in the baskets of books. They were seen intently engaged in strolling through the bucket of books to find the one that was most suitable to their academic palates.
Once the children picked out their books they were handed new book bags courtesy of the Rotary Club of Irvington.
This was a much needed service for many parents given the fact that resources are so scarce in the inner city. With the Rotary Clubs assistance, the parents can now utilize the funds, which were allocated for books and book bags, towards other items needed to assist their children in their pursuit of their academic achievement.
