#McConnelling: Sen. Mitch McConnell goes viral with smiling campaign ad

Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky Republican who is the senate minority leader and the new star of #McConnelling across the Internet, released an ad earlier this week with no words in it. The unique ad released by McConnell’s campaign last Tuesday night caught fire this past week as Internet users creatively turned #McConnelling into a game of choice by adding music to the ad. All the ad does – without doctoring by the Internet’s creative users - is show clips of Sen. Mitch McConnell smiling and smiling and smiling, over and over and over again, according to a Washington Post article on Friday.

The unique – to say the least – ad has been a hit on the Internet. Of course, time will tell if his ad's featured smiler is a hit at the ballot boxes throughout Kentucky.

The ad may have been designed to show a kinder, gentler Mitch McConnell to the Kentucky voters, as he is – in reality – rarely seen smiling when he’s before a microphone talking politics.

Some of the #McConnelling YouTube videos which have received thousands upon thousands of hits this past week include the song “Hello” by Lionel Richie , “Can’t Smile Without You” by Barry Manilow, and an array of other artists singing their songs. The #McConnelling YouTube video featuring McConnell and his “now contagious” smile includes the song “Pretty Fly for a White Guy.”

Oh, and by the way, McConnell is running for re-election.
