I think you might agree, not all trailers capture your attention. This one does, if you like true stories about characters who attempt to triumph over adversity.
If the trailer, courtesy of The Wrap, for “Dallas Buyers Club” is a good representation of the film then Matthew McConaughey may get some serious awards consideration for his riveting portrayal of Texas rodeo cowboy Ron Woodroof. This appears to be a serious drama that delicately balances the dark with the light. At first glance it seems like Canadian director/editor Jean-Marc Vallee (“Wild”) has done a nice job of treating a heavy subject with just the right amount of levity.
This true story is about Texas electrician, rodeo cowboy and hellraiser Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment, including pharmaceutical companies, after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986. The screenplay was written by Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack. It was produced by Robbie Brenner, President of Relativity Media’s Production division, and Rachel Winter.
The film has received attention because McConaughey and Jared Leto lost about 70 pounds collectively for their roles. While the film revolves around McConaughey’s Woodroof, Leto’s cross dressing prostitute name Rayon will surely garner him award consideration as well. Also starring is Jennifer Garner, who plays Woodroof’s attractive and concerned Dr. Eve Sacks, as well as Steven Zahn, Dallas Roberts and Griffin Dunne.
The film is being distributed by Focus Features. According to Variety’s Justin Kroll, Focus just moved the release date from December 6th to November 1st, giving the film a longer lead-up to the holiday season.
