MC Hammer’s arrest account tweets about the "chubby elvis looking dude" with the guns and the badge who forgot that he was “on a steady donut diet,” sounds more like rap or reality? MC Hammer’s tweets reflect one perspective. The other is that of a police officer spotting a man in a shopping center “in a vehicle that did not belong to him,” according to a Dublin Police Department spokesperson.
Zap2It reported on Feb. 23, 2013, that Dublin’s PD spokesperson explained that MC Hammer was not only in a car that did not belong to him but that the car also had a registration that was expired.
When a police officer saw a vehicle without a current registration at the Hacienda Crossings shopping center in Dublin, Calif., on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, he did what he is supposed to do. Approach the driver, ask him to roll down his window, ask him to show him his ID, and if necessary, step out of the car.
MC Hammer’s ID did not show “MC Hammer” but Stanley Kirk Burrell, born March 30, 1962. Stanley Kirk Burrell was not the registered owner of the car with the expired registration so police asked MC Hammer who the registered owner was.
According to the Dublin police, “After asking Hammer who the registered owner was he became very argumentative and refused to answer the officer's questions."
According to MC Hammer’s tweets, "I rolled down the window and he said ‘Are you on parole or probation? … Only thing more dangerous than a scared man with a gun, is a scared man with an agenda, a gun and a badge’."
"While I was handing him my ID he reached in my car and tried to pull me out the car but forgot he was on a steady donut diet. … It was comical to me until he pulled out his guns, blew his whistle and yelled for help (MallCop) !!! But make no mistake he's dangerous."
Would a police officer in fact reach into a car to pull out a driver and are police officers in the habit of using poetic alliteration such as “parole or probation?” And the police officer didn’t just pull out one gun but “he pulled out his guns?”
Even though the images and language used by MC Hammer is eye-and-ear-catching, it raises the question of whether MC Hammer’s tweets about his arrest sound more like rap than reality.
MC Hammer’s tweets could almost be an additional line to MC Hammer’s Blogger profile.
“I'm an ordinary man, who has lived an extraordinary life. I have been to Japan, Russia, Korea, Hong Kong, Egypt, Germany, Spain, Australia, Singapore, Puerto Rico, every state in America including Alaska and Hawaii. I have met and dined with Presidents and Sultans, and Princes. Most and above all I have met God.”
Add to that the line, “I have been to Santa Rita Jail.”
What is known about the reality of the incident is that MC Hammer was arrested for allegedly obstructing an officer and that Stanley Kirk Burrell, aka MC Hammer, was booked into Santa Rita Jail. It should be interesting to see if next month’s court date will shed more light into MC Hammer’s rap or reality experience and whether or not police will decide what, if any, charges will be filed.
In the meantime, “in your opinion” (as it is often heard in court), was MC Hammer’s arrest racial profiling or obstructing arrest, and do MC Hammer’s tweets sound more like rap or reality?
