Russian designer, Katya Leonovich’s Spring 2014 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at The Studio at Lincoln Center opened to the dreamy song “Coco Avant Chanel” and models with windswept hair and loose tendrils whisping over their natural faces and a rolled bob. Lenovich’s Spring collection of 24 looks were dreamy and made one wish winter was not on its way.
The opening looks of printed silk were based on the designer’s paintings were of marbled shades of blue and pink, browns and corals. As with her Fall 2013 line, Leonovich showed a range of fluid to asymmetric and corseted but her spring line is softer not only in color but tailoring and always the attention to detail on both front and back.
Many looks carried the spring craft trend with ribbon flowing free form on silk organdie corsets and in pleated patchwork dress and jacket.
The music transitioned to the dramatic song “Regarde les hommes tomber: Une odeur de meurtre” and the most stunning looks of the show. The standouts were leather and embroidered. The notable leather looks was a high collar light purple above the knee dress with seductive asymmetric lacing down the full length; a black dress with plunging neckline covered with asymmetric lacing; strappy bronze ruffled patchwork dress and black stingray shorts. The embroidered dresses were sheer gunmetal metallic; one with a plunging V neck, the other with halter straps and both with vertical ruffles.
