SEVEN PLAYERS RECOGNIZED BY ALABAMA COACHING STAFF FOLLOWING WIN OVER MISSISSIPPI

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A total of seven Crimson Tide players were named players of the week by the Alabama coaching staff following Saturday’s victory over Mississippi. Trent Richardson and Alfred McCullough were named on offense while Mark Barron and C.J. Mosley were recognized on defense. Marquis Maze, Cade Foster and Alex Watkins received the honor on special teams. Maze was named SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week while Barron received honorable mention SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Richardson had another good all-around game for the Crimson Tide as he totaled 220 all-purpose yards against the Rebels. Richardson caught 5 passes for 101 yards, including an 85-yard TD, rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries and returned three kickoffs for 74 yards. McCullough made his first career start Saturday night and received the top grade on the offensive line. McCullough stepped in at right tackle for an injured D.J. Fluker and helped lead UA to the 23-10 win.

Barron had another outstanding performance on defense as he recorded a team-high seven tackles (five solo) with one tackle for loss and one quarterback hurry. He also intercepted his second pass of the season as UA held Mississippi to 243 total yards in the game. The Rebels went 0-for-8 on third down in the first half and had just 41 yards at the intermission as Alabama took a 16-3 lead. Mosley, a true freshman, saw significant time at linebacker Saturday and tied for third on the team with five total tackles (three solo).

On special teams, Maze finished with the third-best game in school history in terms of punt return yardage. The junior from Birmingham returned six punts for 125 yards with a long of 37. He finished with 168 all-purpose yards as he also caught three passes for 42 yards and rushed once for one yard. Maze now ranks fifth nationally and second in the SEC with an average of 18.7 yards per punt return. Foster handled the kickoff duties once again with one touchback and an average kick of 63.6 yards. He also went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, connecting on kicks of 49 (career-high) and 44 yards. Watkins had what may have been the play of the game when he picked off two Mississippi defenders with a single block to spring Maze around the corner on the 37-yard return. That return led to an Alabama field goal and a 13-0 lead.

Richardson is the only player who has been recognized by the coaching staff all seven weeks this season. He has been selected on offense as well as on special teams.
