Most car guys/gals or serious car nuts have driven or at least know someone who owns a Miata. It's hard not to wear a big goofy smile on your face when you drive one. That's been one of Mazda's biggest selling points with the MX-5 Miata for 25 years. From its launch back in 1989 to today, an incredible number of cars have sold making it the best selling roadster of all time.
Wednesday, September 3 2014 Mazda revealed the latest MX-5 Miata generation, also known as the ND for those up on Miata lingo. This goes back to the first gen being known as the NA, then the second as the NB etc.
The reveal was headed by Mazda designer Derek Jenkins who was obviously very proud and passionate about the result.
The 2016 MX-5 Miata is more aggressive in its stance, sitting lower to the ground with sharper lines and a more modern look. It still wears that classic Mazda appeal but brings it into the 21st Century. The interior is what seems to be one of the biggest improvements. Jenkins commented on the use of more high quality materials while also bringing a more sporty element inside allowing some of the exterior paint color to run along the tops of the doors.
For those hardcore MX-5 Miata fans, it will be interesting to see how the driving experience compares to the first three generations. But one thing's for sure, there won't be any shortage of silly grins plastered across the drivers face.
