AutoCar UK revealed earlier today (Jan. 15,2014) that Mazda officials have confirmed the reveal of the newest generation of the Mazda Miata will take place at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, the site of the original reveal of the first generation Mazda Miata in 1989.
The engineering and styling of this newest generation Miata will emphasize more muscular themes with the front axle pushed forward to better accentuate the rear wheel drive platform and long hood. Design Chief Ikuo Maeda has developed a very unique design language that will be immediately recognizable as Mazda but will be radically different from previous generations. Maeda has also incorporated many of the same styling cues from the Miata onto it’s upcoming bigger brother sports car in the Mazda RX-7 coupe (slated to be revealed in production form sometime in 2016).
Power will most likely be handled by 1.6 to 2.0 liter naturally aspirated sky-active gasoline engines. Sky-Active gasoline engines utilize a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold to further emphasize its free flowing characteristics and thus a longer bonnet is needed to facilitate such long exhaust manifold.
And with a curb weight of just above 2204 lbs, the Mazda Miata again delivers on being one of the lightest sports coupe’s by far in its class.. The idea for the new Miata is to reduce the weight with new construction so it will have a better power to weight ratio.
