Floyd "Money" Mayweather solidified himself as arguably the greatest boxer of this generation, defeating Saul "Canelo" Alvarez by majority decision Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nev.
With blinding speed, impenetrable defense and a heavy doze of jabs and crosses, (45-0, 26 KOs) Mayweather unified the WBA and WBC junior middleweight titles in front of a sold-out MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The reigning pound-for-pound king improved to 20-0 against current/former champions and expanded his win streak to 22-0 in title fights.
Not only was Mayweather "Money" in utilizing the most underrated weapon in boxing, but his right hand gave him no issues, as he peppered (42-1-1, 30 KOs) Canelo's head and body for 12 rounds.
In fact, statistics show that he did most of his damage to the left side of Alvarez's face, landing 130 of the 224 punches thrown to that area.
"My dad had a brilliant gameplan and I went out there and got the job done," added Mayweather, who also connected on 139-of-330 jabs, compared to his opponent's 44-of-294.
According to CompuBox numbers, Mayweather went 232-for-505 (46 percent) in total punches thrown, while Alvarez struggled to find his mark - landing just 117-out-of-526 (22 percent) shots he attempted.
Power punches numbers also favored of the 36-year-old American 93 for 175, versus the 23-year-old Mexican's 73-of-232 figures. However, the night would not conclude without some controversy.
Despite the one-sided stats, someone at the MGM Grand actually scored this fight a draw. While two judges scored it (117-111 and 116-112) in favor of Mayweather, C.J. Ross claims she witnessed a leveled fight.
It comes as no surprise that this is the same judge who botched the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley bout in June of last year.
Ross, who swindled "Pac-Man" with a 115-113 tally in favor of "Desert Storm", left everyone at the MGM Grand up-in-arms yet again. Even Justin Bieber was shocked when her (114-114) scorecard was read by Jimmy Lennon Jr.
"I thought it was a joke," Mayweather said after the fight. "I was kind of shocked, but I'm not the judge. My job is to go out there, fight, and leave the fight in the judge's hands. I wanted to get the knockout [but] things happened."
