According to a May 3 MMA-Fighting report, the MGM Grand Garden Arena will be the site for tonight’s Showtime (TV and live stream) boxing PPV fight card, headlined by the main event between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana. In the midst of much speculation regarding the future of the sport, boxing promoters have put together arguably the most star-filled fight card in recent memory.
Not only will fight fans get to see a great main event featuring boxing's pound-for-pound king, but combat sports fans will also get to see Amir Kahn take on Luis Collazo and Adrien Broner fight Carlos Molina on the same card. All the action gets underway at 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. CST/6 p.m. MST/5 p.m. PST) with Showtime’s Countdown to Boxing: Mayweather vs. Maidana show (click on embedded video).
The pre-fight show will feature interviews and analysis for all of tonight's PPV bouts, as well as sneak peaks of some of the early TV fights. After the one-hour free live stream, the hard-hitting action shifts over to pay-per-view at 9 p.m. EST for a great night of fights.
A NY Daily News report states that the glove dispute between (45-0, 26 KOs) Floyd "Money" Mayweather and (35-3, 31 KOs) Marcos "El Chino" Maidana’s camps has finally been resolved. After putting the bout in jeopardy following yesterday's weigh-ins, both sides agrees that Mayweather would wear Grant gloves, while Maidana will be swinging Everlast leathers this evening.
"I've been told there will be no problem," said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer after Mayweather's camp complained about the padding on the Argentine's gloves. "There's going to be a fight and they're both going to wear gloves and we’re all going to be happy."
The question now becomes: Was this "glove controversy" a tactic on the part of The Money Team to try and throw off Maidana and his camp? As detailed in an USA-Today report, Mayweather got into a heated exchange with trainer Robert Garcia, claiming that the weight-distribution of the Everlast glove gave the Latino an advantage.
In Friday's weigh-ins, Mayweather tipped the scales at 146 pounds, while his opponent was a bit heavier at 146.5 pounds. Afterwards, the 37-year-old American spoke about the Argentine’s punching-power, stating that underestimating him could lead to a very short outing.
How will it all play "The Moment" Floyd Mayweather steps into the square-circle to take on vicious knockout artist Marcos Maidana? According to boxing oddsmakers, Mayweather (-1000) comes in as a huge betting favorite against Maidana (+675), and the OVER/UNDER is set at a combined total of 9½ rounds.
In addition, Adrien "The Problem" Broner (-2800) is expected to get back on track by defeating Carlos Molina (+1500), while Amir "King" Kahn (-200) looks to keep things going versus Luis Collazo (+170). Don't miss what is sure to be a great night of fights, live from the fight capital of the world.
