Amir Khan, who was in the running to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., is now in search of an opponent as it is evident that he will not be facing Mayweather in his next encounter. Hence, the proposal has been made by Mayweather for Khan to face Adrien Broner on his May 3rd undercard in which he will take on Marcos Maidana.
Mayweather told fighthype.com,
"I think Amir Khan and Adrien Broner is fighting on my undercard, but what I think should happen is, I think Amir Khan should face Adrien Broner. I think that’ll be a good matchup."
If Mayweather's proposal is successful, many suspect that he would be willing to give Khan, with a victory, the opportunity to face him in a PPV showdown. Consequently, Khan has extended the challenge to Broner in hopes of getting one step closer to the true match up he seeks against Mayweather.
Even more, Mayweather has proposed that the match up be made on his under card in which he will take on Marcos Maidana. If put together, a fight between Broner and Khan would certainly boost up the pay-per-view sales as it is an intriguing match up.
For Broner, a fight against Khan would surely be the biggest fight of his career as a victory would put him back at the top of the sport. Thus, it would not be surprising to see Broner accept the challenge as he is in search of an opponent due to the fact that his rematch with Maidana will not occur in his next fight.
Khan had multiple comments on the topic via his twitter page,
"If @AdrienBroner wants it let's do it. Maidana knocked him down twice. I'll knock him out!"
"@FloydMayweather, tell @AdrienBroner to fight me on your card and when I beat him, you fight me next!" (Retweeted by Floyd Mayweather)
Nevertheless, boxing fans must wait and see if a fight will be made between Khan and Broner. It would surely be a competitive match up, but it has yet to be confirmed that the two parties have come to terms. Credit must be given to Mayweather if the fight is made as it would provide another fascinating match up on his under card in which he would benefit through the additional PPV buys that would be generated.
