Earlier today American super star boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sentenced to serving ninety days in jail for hitting his baby’s mama. Floyd was arrested for this offence in September of 2010 after his ex girlfriend, Josie Harris complained to the police in Las Vegas that Mayweather struck her repeatedly in the head and then threatened to kill her. Charged with felony battery, coercion and robbery Mayweather was released shortly afterwards after paying $30,000 bail.
Mayweather Jr. made a deal with the prosecutors for felony charges to be reduced to a misdemeanor and plead guilty to domestic violence. Extremely unhappy about violence taking place in front of children judge sentenced Floyd Mayweather Jr. to six month in jail with three moths of that sentence suspended, plus one hundred hours of community service and 12 month domestic violence program along with $2500 fine. Which only goes to show you that money can’t buy happiness or even freedom sometimes. Floyd Mayweather is scheduled to turn himself in to serve his sentence in jail on January 6th, 2012.
My father always told me if you play with fire expect to get burned. I wish Floyd Sr. had time to teach his son about consequences of his actions. As is judge decided to teach Floyd a lesson that his father never taught him. However, considering the seriousness of the original charges Floyd’s sentence seems light. Realistically he will spend 45 five days in jail and get the rest of the time off for good behaviour. Still more than enough time to get ready for a fight on May 5th. Meanwhile across the ocean, his rival Manny Pacquiao bought a yacht and said that he would even take less money to secure a much coveted mega fight with Floyd. May be Floyd Mayweather could use extra money to pay for his huge legal fees. Are they going to fight? Stay tuned.
