Monday, May 5th is Cinco de Mayo, to be celebrated at Richard Sandoval’s Washington restaurants with three special margaritas, priced at $5 each, just on the 5th of May. The restaurants are Masa 14, El Centro, D.F., and Zengo.
On the following weekend, May 8th, 9th and 10th, City Tap House (901 9th St. NW) is celebrating Savor: an American Craft Beer & Food Experience. Sierra Nevada Tap Takeover is on the menu for Thursday, the 8th; Colorado Brewers Night is celebrated on Friday, May 9th, and Official Flying Dog Brewery Savor after Party is the Saturday, May 10th finale.
Greek Easter continues to be celebrated through May 3rd at Zaytinya (701 9th St. NW, 202-638-0800) wit special small plates. The holiday is celebrated in Greece with religious ceremonies and festive gatherings featuring traditional dishes. On May 3rd, Zaytinya will host a traditional agora, or Greek outdoor market. The agora will feature Greek artisans, goods from local artists and vendors, and live music. The agora will be free to the public and will showcase Greek culture with Spartan warriors, live music and local cuisine, as well as complimentary loukmades, a Greek, deep-fried pastry drizzled with honey and cinnamon syrup. Jose Andres’ Pepe the Food Truck will be stationed in front of the restaurant on the G Street side, serving lamb sandwiches with tzatsiki, fresh mint, tomatoes, and fried potatoes.
Early Mountain Vineyards in Madison, Virginia (61009 Wolftown-Hood Road, Madison, VA) is hosting its second annual barbecue festival on Sunday, May 4th from 1 to 4 p.m. Guests can relax on the terrace of the vineyard, play a round of corn hole and admire the view of the Blue Ridge foothills while enjoying music from Sarah Lynna & the Misfit Toys. The barbecue will feature a whole hog and all the fixings and wines from Early Mountain Vineyards. Beer will be supplied from Champion Brewing Co. of Charlottesville. Tickets for the event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door on May 4th.
