People who watch for the political news in and around Chicago couldn’t help but notice that Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was AWOL from the front pages and the ten o’clock news throughout the entirety of the holidays.
While initially believing that the mayor was spending some private time with his family during Hanukkah, since Emanuel is of the Jewish persuasion, he continued to be out of the news beyond the New Year.
When the mayor returned to City Hall as well as the media cameras and reporters today, his new tan was explained by the fact that he was on a two-week vacation with his wife Amy Rule and his three children. The vacation in the sun was reportedly to Chile and Argentina where the activities included fly fishing, hiking, and a 70-mile white water rafting trip. The mayor said that he and his wife take their children to a different part of the world every year.
Rather than ushering in the New Year in Chicago where guns and fireworks went off illegally in the neighborhoods and the first murder of the 2012 was committed within hours, the Emanuel family was in Buenos Aires to welcome in 2012.
