Need a last minute gift and don't want to spend a lot of money? Why not visit Christmas Village. It's located in Love Park just across the street from city hall. In fact, Mayor Michael Nutter paid a quick visit the day before Christmas.
This is an eclectic area of European shops with a German feel towards it. Gifts run anywhere from a few dollars to a couple hundred. Nutcracker statues to timepieces, you can find it there. Christmas Village is about 60 small shacks that are set up and house merchandise. Some of the stores have no room to walk around, others are large tents.
This year, there are more merchants. So the mayor, in the mood for a stroll paid a visit to the area. What went from a tour of the shops was more like a photo op for people who saw all of the cameras around him. Dressed in a jacket and baseball cap, few people would know who he was had he not invited the press.
This year, the village will stay open on January 1 2014 and close that night.. Usually at holiday time, someone forgets to get someone a gift or finds out they need to get something quickly. Christmas Village is located in a convenient location for tourists to plop down a few extra dollars for a souvenir from Philadelphia at Christmas time.
