Washington State could use some guys like Jackson County, WI District Attorney Gerald R. Fox, a fellow who might give Chicago Mayor Richard Daley heartburn and Illinois Sen. Roland Burris (a Democrat, naturally) a cardiac.
While Burris was busy bylining an opinion piece for The Hill about the travesty of Monday’s 5-4 Supreme Court ruling in McDonald v. City of Chicago — the Second Amendment Foundation’s historic victory that essentially destroys the Windy City’s 28-year-old handgun ban — Fox was telling reporters that, because of the ruling, he is no longer going to enforce several anti-gun regulations in the Badger State.
Reaction to the loss in Chicago has been predictable and pitiful. On Friday, the city council adopted regulations that, Daley boasted, amount to the toughest handgun law in the nation. Burris, meanwhile, declared that the Supreme Court ruling would result in more death. Evidently, he was drinking the same Kool-Aid as that bunch over at the Violence Policy Center, which this column mentioned here.
The new ruling stipulates that Chicago must abandon its current gun law — a statute put in place to curb violence and protect emergency responders, such as police officers and EMTs. Now that these protections have been overturned, it is imperative that the city moves quickly to enact responsible handgun regulations, so we can secure our neighborhoods and prevent these weapons from falling into the hands of criminals.—Sen. As painful as it was to read about Daley’s arrogant effort to regulate the Second Amendment right into oblivion, Burris left no doubt that he is bereft of common sense.
One Associated Press report about the passage of Daley’s new handgun law — which this column discussed here yesterday — quoted Chicago resident Mary Fitts, who complained that “there’s just too much killing going on; we need protection.” Fitts had come from her South Side home to watch the council adopt the new handgun law.
News Flash for Mary: All of that killing has been going on while Chicago’s handgun ban has been in effect. One recent weekend saw 52 people shot, eight of them fatally. That happened before the high court ruled that the Second Amendment applies to the states.
"These so-called 'public safety' laws only put decent law-abiding citizens at a dangerous disadvantage when it comes to their personal safety, and I for one am glad that this decades-long era of defective thinking on gun issues is over," Fox wrote in the statement, released this week.”—Jackson County DA Gerald R. Back in Wisconsin, DA Fox issued a statement that he would stop prosecuting charges against people for carrying uncased or loaded guns in their automobiles, and he is sure not going to prosecute anyone for carrying a concealed handgun. Wisconsin is one of two states that has no concealed carry statute. The other state is — TA DA! — Illinois, home of Chicago and its Duke of Demagoguery Richard Daley.
All of this leaves the small staff at the Bellevue, WA-based Second Amendment Foundation rolling their eyes and shaking their heads. Daley just got his backside kicked in court, and already he is setting the stage for more litigation, an odd endeavor considering that a new Rasmussen survey shows the overwhelming majority of Americans are not on his side. SAF's Alan Gottlieb, who also chairs the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, reveled in the news.

DA Fox is probably not going to win any accolades from gun prohibitionists, but he is soon to become a celebrity among gun owners, one can practically guarantee that.
Earlier Friday the Associated Press did a story on all of the smaller gun rights groups that have sprung up in recent years, doing things that the National Rifle Association allegedly has not been doing. The story did not mention SAF or its sister organization, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, probably because they are smaller national groups. Both have been involved in legal actions with NRA in recent years, such as the successful joint lawsuits against the San Francisco handgun ban and Seattle city parks gun ban.
With guys like Daley around, chances are they’ll have ample opportunity to partner up again.

The really sad commentary here is if you look on various gun sites on the Internet you will see that comments made before McDonald was decided clerly indicated that NRA people thought the McDonald decision was going to end it all when common sense clearly indicated the fight has only begun. Daley is proving that. Mc Donald was the critical first step but we have miles to go and people like Daley WILL NOT GIVE UP. The fight is only begining folks and we have to keep the pressure up and support the smaller gun orgnaizations willing to help fight these issues and ignore the NRA who seems to be more interested in collecting dues than in protecting gun owner rights.
There are polls and statistical analyses that support gun rights: pollsby ABC, CNN, and Gallup; analyses by John Lott and Gary Cleck; etc.
I would suggest citing such authorities along with, or instead of, Rasmussen. His samppling methodology aone is enough to raise questions.
Be wary of all polls; noting Twain's comments about "lies, damned lies, and statistics".
No matter how many lawsuits are filed and even won against crap like this, the Daleys of the nation will replace the defeated law with another just as egregious, requiring another lawsuit. In this way they can extend this fight for centuries. No! That is not hyperbole, centuries.
This will only be settled when there are unpleasant ramifications are visited upon the abusers. Since we have no expectations, realistic or fanciful, of these ramifications being supplied by the justice system we have only one way to settle this issue peacefully. That is surrender. Let them have their way. That is the only avenue to peaceful resolution.
If you find that to be anathema to your rights and our nation then the only way to settle this to its proper conclusion is force.
Anything less will not work, because the tyrants lose nothing, even when they lose. Force will change the solution to that equation and as things now stand, it is the only thing that will.
What is wrong with you people in Chicago get rid of Daily,if you want safer streets that is.that is what you want?
