Mayor Bloomberg, Three Term Mayor Of New York Is Not Who We Thought He Was, Now Supporting "International Burn a Quran Day"
First Mayor Bloomberg surprised and mostly disappointed many in New York, around the country and around the world when he came out in favor of the Ground Zero, or Cordoba House mosque, being built in lower Manhattan ("Victims families and friends speak out against the mosque at Ground Zero (Video)."
The Ground Zero where Islamic fundamentalists had flown jet fuel laden missiles filled with innocent men women and children into the World Trade Center killing thousands. This performance by the Mayor could only make one look longingly back to the previous administration of Rudy Giuliani, a get tough, no nonsense leader who would have done everything in his power to stop this construction.
"International Burn a Quran Day" Sponsored By The Dove World Outreach Center Led By Pastor Terry Jones And Supported By Mayor Bloomberg
Mayor Bloomberg, in an addendum to his freedom of religion argument supporting the mosque at Ground Zero, has now invoked the First Amendment once again coming out in favor of Pastor Terry Jones and the planned Koran-burning rally to be held on September 11.
The Mayor of New York made the following comments:
"The First Amendment protects everybody, and you can't say that we're going to apply the First Amendment to only those cases where we are in agreement."
"If you want to be able to say what you want to say when the time comes that you want to say it, you have to defend others, no matter how, how much you disagree with them."
At a time when New York and the country requires tough leadership, what we have instead are the droning tones of a politician who did not climb onto the pile at Ground Zero to proclaim the fact that the terrorists will never beat us. Rather we have man hiding behind the veneer of political correctness.
What possible good will come out of this stunt being orchestrated by this pastor of an unknown congregation? Take a stand Mayor Bloomberg.

Extrapolating from a Quinnipac poll on July 1, 2010 you could reasonably guess that the profile most in opposition in NYC might be something like:
55+ aged no college conservative republican Hispanic Catholic or Jew woman in Staten Island who does not know any Muslims personally, with an "unfavorable opinion of Islam", and that "thinks that this is an insult to 9/11 victims families".
Most supporting in NYC would be:
18-34 aged college liberal democrat black Protestant (maybe Baptist) man in Manhattan who knows a Muslim personally, with a "favorable opinion of Islam", that "understands that this will foster understanding and teach people that not all Muslims are terrorists".

P.S. This is a local issue, most agree. In Manhattan only, 46% support, 35% oppose, 16% don't know. I am from Manhattan and I say that all you 55+ aged, no college, conservative republican, Hispanic, Catholic or Jew women from outside Manhattan should go worry about your local school's PTA and mind your own damn business.
Got something to say?
