Mayhem 2012 Bands Announced

Today the people behind Rockstar Energy Drink's Mayhem Festival announced the band line up for this year’s tour. See what is in store for you if you decide to attend on July 28, when the it makes it's annual stop at the First Niagra Pavilion.

Main Stage:

Slipknot

Slayer

*Super Secret Mystery Band*

The Devil Wears Prada/As I Lay Dying/Asking Alexandria (rotating slot depending on the date)

Jagermeister Stage:

Anthrax

The Devil Wears Prada/As I Lay Dying/Asking Alexandria (whichever two are not playing main stage)

Whitechapel

High on Fire

*Jagermeister Opener (set to change depending on tour stop)*

Now that the line-up is out of the way, there is much to discuss.

You may have noticed that there are only ten bands appearing on two stages, which is a jump from the normal Mayhem format we all may be used to; twelve bands on three stages. I don't necessarily think that this is a bad thing, and considering this is the best all around line-up Mayhem has had since 2010, I can't argue. The two other bands they would have picked probably wouldn't have been anything special anyway.

I am sure you are also wondering about this "Super Secret Mystery Band" that will be announced on March 5. There are so many possibilities, but given the slot, I think we should be able to narrow it down to just a few. My money is on either Lamb of God or Hatebreed, but with my luck we will probably get stuck with Five Finger Death Punch (I type this with my fingers crossed praying that isn't going to be the band).

As you may have also noticed, SLAYER AND ANTHRAX!!! Those two bands alone sold me a ticket. Plus with Megadeth last year, how long will it be before they get Metallica to headline to include all of the Big 4 in the festival’s history.

What do you think of this year’s bands compared to prior Mayhem Fests? Feel free to leave a comment below.
