Mayfield wants NASCAR to 'show me the money'

If Jeremy Mayfield were on trial for a crime, there would seem to be enough circumstantial evidence to sway any jury towards a guilty verdict.

In the latest twist, Mayfield’s attorney filed motions Monday in response to NASCAR’s appeal of a judge’s ruling that Mayfield’s suspension for a positive drug test be temporarily lifted. According to the papers NASCAR hasn’t proven their case and has not shown a good enough reason to overturn the lifting of the suspension.

Of course Mayfield’s attorney was only addressing the first positive test, not the second one administered to Mayfield. That test, which Mayfield delayed taking for nearly eight hours, was also positive for methamphetamine.

Since the second positive test, and an affidavit with Mayfield’s step mother claiming to have personally witnessed him using and making meth, Mayfield as spoken out with such logical arguments as his stepmother is a ‘whore’ and gold digger who murdered his father in 2007. The odd thing is that if Lisa Mayfield did murder his father, law enforcement authorities sure did mess up. No charges have been filed and the case was closed with the cause of death listed as a self inflicted gunshot wound. If Jeremy were right, she would have seemingly gotten away with the perfect crime.

Mayfield also claimed that NASCAR intentionally spiked the results of the second test. And his lawyer John Buric, released results of another test taken on the same day but performed by LabCorp, an independent laboratory not hired by NASCAR, that came up negative for methamphetamines and amphetamines.

The only problem was that the test results that were shown didn’t actually have Mayfield’s name, only a number that Buric swore was Mayfield’s actual test.

Then came the question about that actual test taken by Mayfield. Was he directly observed taking the sample? Bill Bonello of LabCorp told the Associated Press, "LabCorp does not comment on drug testing results."

There’s seems no doubt that Mayfield is guilty. Keep in mind that Lisa Mayfield’s claims were made under oath and the possibility of jail time for perjury should she be lying, Once a credible witness comes forward to substantiate those claims you can pretty much close this case.

So what the heck is really going on here?  Why is Mayfield is still fighting this losing battle. A fight where he is in a deep hole and every time he opens his mouth the hole gets bigger?

The answer is simple, according to NASCAR veteran Darrell Waltrip.

“What I am seeing here is I got to ask myself, ‘Why would Jeremy, if he had flunked the drug test, and NASCAR comes to him and says "Look you flunked the test," and they have what they call a road map, here is your road map for getting back and getting reinstated.’ He chose not to do that,” Waltrip said on SPEED TV’s Wind Tunnel program Sunday night. “And here is the only reason and the only conclusion I can come up with - he has gotten the judge to side with him, he is saying he has passed all the other tests past NASCAR, his career is ruined, he is never going to be able to drive a car in NASCAR again.

What would he probably want?

He would probably want a settlement and I believe he is trying to leverage all this, all of his side of the story against NASCAR’s side of the story and maybe they will pay him to go away. That’s the only reason, that’s the only way I can make this all come together and work in my mind.”

It’s no secret that Mayfield owes a lot of money, to a lot of people in the garage area. From engine and chassis builders to crewmembers, there are a lot of open hands being thrust in Mayfield’s direction. So how to take care of them, and since you have no future in your chosen profession why not take care of your own bank account at the same time. The money to pay those defense lawyers has to come from somewhere. So why not yell loudly, gather some fans that are blind to the facts to join you, until NASCAR decides to open the checkbook and pay you to simply go away.

That sounds like a good theory, on paper at least. But now that that angle is going by the wayside, exposed for what it is, it will be interesting to see how long it takes for Mayfield to stand up and admit the truth.

How come he doesn't show any signs of a meth user ? ( very bad teeth, sunken eyes)

So much for objective journalism. I don't subscribe to the grand conspiracy theory that some do, but I also don't believe a man should be condemned before the accusations against him have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt (aka due process). It's certainly possible that a urinalysis can yield a false positive, even with GC/MS confirmation; it's also possible that Mayfield is a "meth head". Who knows which is true? I don't, but evidently you do.

Apparently DW is projecting his own character on to Mayfield, saying it's all about the money. Maybe it's about clearing his name. Maybe it's about making sure no driver has to undergo rehab for a problem he doesn't have. Maybe it's about proving the sanctioning body isn't as benevolent as you portend Greg. Maybe it's about you and the rest of the media who blindly follow Nascar's lead. As for Lisa Mayfield, should have done some checking into the "lady's" background before using her as a witness.

    FROM NASCAR'S COURT FILING:
“Because Mr. Mayfield’s repeated and confirmed use of methamphetamine violates NASCAR’s substance abuse policy, and because NASCAR must be permitted to protect the safety of its drivers, crews, and fans, as well as the integrity of the sport, Defendants respectfully request that the Court immediately vacate its July 7, 2009 [written] order and reinstate NASCAR’s suspension of Mr. Mayfield,” NASCAR writes in its filing Wednesday.

I presume that NASCAR wil be cancelling all Military Flyovers, as US Military Pilots are routinely given amphetamines to enhance performance...we wouldn't want the safety of the fans at the track to be compromised..........

All you gotta do is a Google News search everyday and watch the headlines. You can tell who the Nascar tools are that spread the propagenda to the clueless sheep.

Check out he New York Times, they just posted a non biased article.

Thats funny ole hypoctrite Jaws saying that. Why wasn't he running his mouth when his brother was doing his drunken sock walk from the cops?

Brian, I'm not clear yet on whether Mayfield is guilty or innocent, but having grown up in an area that is well known for having a HIGH density of meth producers/users, I can tell you one thing. You would be surprised how every person who uses does NOT necessarily look like an abuser. There have been "upstanding" citizens that I've known well and been SHOCKED when I they've admitted to me that they used. And if you've ever been around an addict/user, you know the paranoia and excuses that can emanate from them, just as there seems to be a lot of that going on in this case.

Again, not saying that I know if Jeremy is guilty (although I'm inclined to believe it a little more after this second testing fiasco), just putting it out there, that looks can be deceiving...

Greg - "The only problem was that the test results that were shown didn’t actually have Mayfield’s name, only a number that Buric swore was Mayfield’s actual test."

Precisely and even stranger Mayfield said in his latest interview on the Late Shift radio show on Sirius that the test you note was given to Piedmont Urgent Care.

The document Buric submitted to the court, and authored by LabCorp, says the sample was given to the Vitality Anti-Aging Center and Med Spa, then tested by LabCorp.

Interestingly, the Vitality Anti-Aging Center and Med Spa is reportedly the place where Mayfield got the scripts for Adderall.

Can you say "conflict of interest?" Sure you can unless your one of the many tenuously grasping on the NASCAR/Aegis conspiracy theory. In that case you'd not only not see it but would deny it if you did.

Brian Schwark - "How come he doesn't show any signs of a meth user ? ( very bad teeth, sunken eyes)"

How come Aaron Fike didn't show signs of being a heroin u

"Me" - "Thats funny ole hypoctrite Jaws saying that. Why wasn't he running his mouth when his brother was doing his drunken sock walk from the cops?"

Do you know for a fact he didn't? That aside while DW's brother drove while drunk the substance wasn't illegal, like oh, say Meth, AND he didn't do it while driving 200mph on a track full of race cars.

Nice try "Me" thanks for plying don't forget your parting gifts on the way out.

Dawn - "Check out he New York Times, they just posted a non biased article."

Really, so when he writes about the problems of NASCAR drug policy and it "fails to establish precise penalties" is not biased in your opinion?

That's a flat-out falsehood and either shows the writers ignorance of the policy in place or is in fact biased.

It's not biased when he writes "Mayfield, who had offered to be retested" of the test on July 6th when in fact it was mandated and random as the policy states and NOT at the behest of Mayfield.

He also notes only 2 positive tests when in fact there have been 3 documented.

Dawn, if that's unbiased I'm Fonty Flock's ghost.

It amazes me how these self proclaimed "REPORTERS" have tried and convicted Jeremy without having ALL the evidence. Sure don't want them on my jury!

As for the test being identified by number? That is normal for privacy reasons. LAB CORP can only submit the name to a select few without a court directing them to do otherwise or the permission of the person being tested. Please try to remember that now things are being done by an attorney under court guidelines.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be eating a lot of crow before this is over. My guess? Those that are giving NASCAR so much credibility when they should know better. They are not thinking just how much their words will help Jeremy's case in court.

Do not forget the Judges words, " this testing and barring Jeremy from his career, his livelihood, tend to hurt him more than NASCAR".

We are not privy to all we need to be to judge quite yet folks. NASCAR is superb at bs PR.

Just another reporter trying to make sure he makes Brian's list supporting Nascar so he will be assured he can keep his press credentials. And, I hope Mayfield gets a TON of money from Nascar.

I think someone needs to fix nascar and their rules ,they are going to run nasecar into the ground...work with mayfield..or you are gonna lose some viewers..can you afford that ???
things are bad can you afford to keep looking bad in the Papers...you say this is our nascar
so we want Mayfield racing and his step mom duct taped........

Another Na$crap kissing writer shrilling the company line. You'd have to have ADD if you think there's enough evidence against Mayfield to lose this case. Wonder if all these Na$crap shrills will apologize IN PRINT if Mayfield wins? Never had an opinion either way as far as being a fan of Mayfield as a driver, admittedly Jeremy was in the twilight of his career, but I think don't think most fans would have minded if he enjoyed some mild success as a owner/driver. Now Na$crap has ruined him by throwing mud and continueing their smear campaign against him. Hope he doesn't make a settlement without an admission of Na$crap wrong doing. Otherwise I hope he takes this to the end and takes Na$crap for big $$$. If Jeremy wins this alot of Na$crap writers are going to look like FOOLS. We already know who most of them are.

I have ALMOST lost all interest in Nascar racing after following it for over 30 years. If it weren't for this Mayfield circus and the Carl Long injustice, I wouldn't have any reason to pay attention anymore. Thank you Nascar for a most entertaining season. All this value and I haven't even watched a single race all year.

  • jjdj8 2 years ago

    Hey guys/ girls
You are spot on with your analysis, first off I will not pay much attention to anything that comes from Mr. waltrips’ mouth as he is on Nascar’s payroll so he will always side with his boss, as for Jeremy I said is before on Espn and I will say it again I am giving Jeremy all the benefit of the doubt and as you can see he has a whole grandstand of supporters so hang in there Jeremy.

Deborah says - "Just another reporter trying to make sure he makes Brian's list supporting Nascar...."

    Just another "reporter?"

Maybe you didn't notice but this is a blog and as such the author isn't wearing his "reporters hat," this is purely, and simply an opinion piece.

  • Marc 2 years ago

Rimshaw says - "Ever heard of "Mayfield Dairy" in tennessee? Mayfield ice cream?"

Ever hear of a thing called research?

Apparently not otherwise a search of the company history would have told you this "Mayfield" is not in anyway related to Jeremy Mayfield.

  • John 2 years ago

NASCAR is citing Jeremy's estranged stepmom as a key witness stating she has witnessed him cooking and using Meth for 11 years? I have a hard time believing this becuase he would clearly show signs after even a a couple months of use. I think NASCAR has fouled up the test(s) and don't want to admit it.. I wish you so-called journalists would do a little research before you try to convict him in the public court

  • Bramwell 2 years ago

Wonder where the "backing" is coming from that Jeremy said he has to fight NASCAR? In court filing JM said he was having to sell personal belongings to pay his bills. Follow the money?

  • Lividone 2 years ago

If a person already wear dentures and then starts using meth, you won't get "meth mouth." You can't rot what you ain't got. And if you're taking Adderall, well there's your "methadone" like substitute which allows you to balance your addiction cravings and maintain a healthy glow between usage. Too bad they didn't make sure the urine used in the "independent test" had amphetamines in it to back that part up.
LOL@ Rimshaw - I saw that ice cream too; I checked they don't make a Battery acid and kitty litter flavor...yet.

I have been a nascar fan for over 30 years. I don't believe Nascar for one second. They make tons of mistakes and have NEVER admitted ever doing anything wrong. I no longer support any sponsor who gives Nascar money.

As far as a test result with a number on it, Aegis test result also has a number, and Nascar SWEARS it is Mayfield's. If mayfields lawyer ca

Unless of course Aegis isn't being truthful about the blind testing.

If you want to TRUST Nascar and those being paid by Nascar, feel free to walk around with blinders on. For anyone who has been a nascar fan for more than 10 minutes, ( which is very hard to find these days) Don't forget Tim Richmond's exclusion from nascar because he wouldn't release all his medical records to nascar. Which is not a nascar policy. Nascar makes up rules as they go, and applies them to whoever they want to while not applying them to everyone. All drivers did not have to release all their medical records. Only "ONE", the one nascar wanted remo
