The strong and influential woman has passed, but her spirit and teachings will live on in Balboa Park, San Diego.

The World Beat Center in Balboa Park will hold a tribute to Maya Angelou on June 20. This venue serves as the perfect celebratory place, as it's founding was rooted in the teachings of Maya Angelou. Founder Makeda Dread was very much moved and influenced by Angelou, so much that she followed her dream of creating this place of culture and celebration 20 years ago.

The World Beat Center in Balboa Park, San Diego is a non-profit multi-cultural arts organization dedicated to promoting, presenting & preserving the African & Indigenous cultures of the world through Music, Art, Dance, Education & Technology. This center is as vibrant on the inside as it is on the outside. More often than not, music and celebrations can be heard from within, as well as dancing and celebrations can be seen on the outside. This is a gathering place celebrating one life and one love.

More details on the tribute and celebrations for Maya Angelou will be posted on the World Beat Center website.
