May provides local runners a number of opportunities to race. Let’s run through some of the events scheduled for the month.

May 5- Englewood YMCA County Line 5K: This event raises funds for scholarships for needy children in the area and for breast cancer programs. The race starts at Chadwick Park Shelter #3 on Englewood Beach. The park is located at 2100 North Beach Road.(Click here for a map) The race route is along the beach and should be a flat, fast course. Click here to register online.

May 6- Tropicool 5K: This 5K is a fundraiser for the Gulf Coast Runners Youth Development Fund. The race is scheduled for a 7:30 am start. The certified course starts atthe corner of 3rd Street and Broad Ave. South in the Olde Naples area. (Click here for a map). You can register online for this race.

May 12- CHS Miles for Smiles 5K: This race is a benefit for the Smile Train, a charity that devotes its efforts to helping those with cleft lips or palates. It will start at Charlotte High School, 1250 Cooper St in Port Charlotte (Click here for a map). CHS’s National Honor Society is helping sponsor this event. It is scheduled for a 7:30 am start. May 12- Turtle Trot 5K: The race, which is a benefit for the Friends of Lovers Key, has a more relaxed atmosphere. This race has a unique trail course that takes runners through a shady maritime hammock ecosystem on a hard-packed shell path. It is scheduled for an 8:00 am start.(Click here for a map). May 19- Cape Cops 5K: This race is part of the national Police Week observance and the funds raised go to the families of fallen or injured police officers. It will start and finish at the Cape Coral Yacht Club, located at 5819 Driftwood Parkway in Cape Coral. (Click here for a map) The race route winds through neighborhoods with a river view and finishes at the beach. It is scheduled for a 7:30am start. Click here to register online.

May 28- Race for Grace 5K and 10K: This is a fundraiser for the Teen Challenge Women's Center, a 12 to 18 month live-in program that helps teens and adults find hope and recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The race will begin and end at Oasis Elementary School, 3415 Oasis Boulevard in Cape Coral. (Click here for a map). It is scheduled for a 7:00am start. A special drawing will be held for a 2 night stay at Castaways Beach Resort on Sanibel. Click here to register online.

May 28: Judicata 5K: This is a fundraiser for the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples. The race is scheduled for a 7:30 am start at North Collier Regional Park, 15000 Livingston Road in Naples. (Click here for a map). You can register online for the event by clicking here.
