The Gallery Underground raised the bar in May by asking Mark Cameron Boyd, Adjunct Professor of Art Theory, Corcoran School of Art to jury the show titled ‘Mayhem.”

“"Since 2003, Mark Cameron Boyd has been creating paintings with words, which were initially based on his own writings. Since then he has appropriated texts from a variety of sources, including Derrida, Nana Last, Rosalind Krauss, and most recently, Thomas Aquinas. On a variety of surfaces, usually wood or wood painted to resemble a blackboard, or even glass, he writes sentences across horizontal pieces of tape laid on the surface. Arlington, VA - Chaos, disorder, confusion, havoc, bedlam, pandemonium,
tumult, turmoil, commotion, violence, insanity; in other words – mayhem. In the
Special Exhibition Space this month, Gallery Underground features “Mayhem” – a
juried exhibit of art that delves into this intriguing subject as artists explore its
definition, as well as how mischief, monkey business, shenanigans, carryings-on,
roguishness, devilment and high jinks play into it. Represented by all media, these
works are meant to provoke and disturb, as well as sometimes amuse. Mayhem is
something we face daily, from disturbing images in the news to the results of
overwork and over-scheduling. Viewers will be challenged to examine how the art
reflects the sometimes tumultuous lives we lead. The works were juried by Mark
Cameron Boyd, Adjunct Professor of Art Theory, Corcoran School of Art.”

The current show, “Bodies of Work: Art in a Series” is splendid, so let’s see what’s next.
