This May is the national Mental Health Month. This year’s motto is “Live Your Life Well.” There is a website for this that you can visit here. This website discussed 10 things each person can do to help them to “live their life well“.

These 10 things are:

1. Connect with others
2. Stay positive
3. Get physically active
4. Help others
5. Get enough sleep
6. Create joy and satisfaction
7. Eat well
8. Take care of your spirit
9. Deal better with hard times
10. Get professional help if you need it

Taking care of your self physically, eating well, getting good sleep, and exercising, are included above and are very important. When a person is physically healthy, it can improve mental health. It is difficult to be happy and stress free when one’s physical health is poor. In addition, getting exercise increases endorphins in the brain. These are the “feel good” hormones.

Connecting with others and helping others can be accomplished here in Modesto at the Wellness Recovery Center. It is located at: 500 N 9th St. here is Modesto. You can reach them at 209-558-4610. You can also visit the office where there are support groups and activities. These are all free of charge and confidential. The office hours are 8am-5pm. The phone hours are 9am-4pm.

The groups include: Spanish speaking groups, depression support, anxiety, and anger support groups. There is a co-ed support group, a men’s group, and a women’s group. There is also a support group for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender persons. There is also an art group, and a movie group. There are group Monday through Friday.

Dealing better with hard times and getting professional help are also important. Sometimes a person needs more help than friends or family can provide. In these cases it is important to seek out professional help. If one is in crisis, he can call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or 9-1-1. More resources and information can be found at the Live Your Life Well website here.

Since May is Mental Health Month, please seek out help and services if needed for mental health crises and difficulties.
