May is Better Hearing & Speech Month. This month provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and role of ASHA members in providing life-altering treatment. ASHA is the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
The theme of the 2014 campaign is Identify the Signs. Many communication disorders are treatable and, with early identification and therapy, many young children can catch up with their peers’ communication skills. With adults, certain communication needs can benefit from continued therapy or other help.

Launched in the fall of 2013, the Identify the Signs campaign focuses on how to recognize the signs of speech, language and hearing disorders—and stresses the importance of early detection. The campaign has already gained traction through its popular public service announcements, media coverage, social media activity and involvement of high-profile partner organizations such as Easter Seals and National Head Start Association.

The link on the ASHA website provides information on spreading the word about communication disorders, how to identify them, and lots of other helps anyone can use to connect people to what they need for improving communication in their lives.
