May 4th brings opening of Sims Store and Erie Canal Park

This weekend on Sunday, May 4, from 1 Pm to 5 Pm will mark the opening day for the historic Camillus Erie Canal Park and Sims Store.

Located at 5750 DeVoe Road the 420 acre park features a museum and free Nature Trail Tours that follow the old Erie Canal and lead to the Aqueduct.

The park also features narrated Boat Tours on the Erie Canal that take you over the 1842 Nine Mile Creek Aqueduct, which is the only navigable Aqueduct in New York State. The tour is narrated and sails on the hour at 1, 2, 3, 4 Pm with nominal fee of $3.00 for adults and $1.50 for children 5 years to 12 years and free to those under 5 years.

There is also a working Steam Engine Exhibit on the first Sunday of each month!

The park features a snack bar and picnic pavilion.

The park is open daily year round, with 13 miles of
trails for hiking, biking and Canalway Trail; kayaks & canoes welcome with fishing permitted.
