Vampire Academy tells the legend of two seventeen-year-old girls Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir. Rose is a Dhampir (half-vampire, half-human) guardian-in-training and her best friend Lissa is a royal Moroi princess (mortal, peaceful vampires). Living discreetly within our world, Rose and Lissa have been on the run for two years until they are captured and returned to St. Vladimir’s Academy, where their lives may be in jeopardy. Thrust back into the perils of Moroi Society and high school, Lissa struggles to reclaim her status while Rose trains with the Russian Dhampir Dimitri Belikov, her older mentor and love interest, to guarantee her place as Lissa’s guardian. Rose will sacrifice everything to protect her best friend from the world of darkness -- the Strigoi (immortal, bloodthirsty evil vampires) who hunt her kind -- and those from within the Academy who desire to exploit her royal highness. It is Rose’s legacy and this is her story.
