In this week's new releases, we start of with Clint Eastwood's Invictus where newly elected President Nelson Mandela enlists the South African Springboks rugby team to help him unite a South Africa marred by the strife of apartheid. Next we have Extraordinary Measures that chronicles the Crowley family's plight to find a cure for two of their dying children, who are suffering from Pompe disease. In Valentine's Day, an ensemble cast of singles and couples struggle to get through the romantically commercialized February 14th when love is ever-changing and timing is everything. Finally, Outlander (2008) is released on Blu-ray. A soldier from a faraway planet crash lands his spacecraft and lets loose a deadly Morween alien. He must band together with the local Viking tribes to capture the Morween before it ravages everything.

Oscar-nominated film Invictus focuses on Nelson Mandela's (Morgan Freeman) goal to unite post-apartheid South Africa after he is released from prison on Robben Island in 1990. As the newly elected President of South Africa, he must find a way to unite the Afrikaners (European white South Africans) and the black natives. While the black natives are proud, the Afrikaners fear the tidal shift of power. When he sees that black native children play soccer and Afrikaners play rugby, Mandela has an idea. He seeks the help of Jacobus François Pienaar (Matt Damon). He is the captain of the South African Springboks rugby team that consists mostly of Afrikaners and one black native, Chester Williams (McNeil Hendricks). Mandela wants François to motivate his team so they will excel in the 1995 Rugby World Cup hosted by South Africa. He hopes that the team will help instill national pride, alleviate the Afrikaners' fear of losing power and overcome Springbok's dark association with apartheid. Mandela's plan begins to work when Springboks go out to the poor areas and teach rugby to the children, inseminating team spirit regardless of race. As the games are underway and the underdog Springboks beat the tough challenging Australians, national pride starts to build. By the final match, the Springboks have gained the support of both the Afrikaners and the black natives. With the nation's encouragement, will the Springboks win the match against New Zealand and help Mandela forge a new united South Africa?

Outlander (2008) is finally released on Blu-ray. In 709 A.D., a soldier named Kainan (James Caviezel), from a faraway planet, crash lands his spacecraft into a Norwegian fjord. The onboard deadly Morween alien escapes and ravages the Viking lands. Initially, Kainan is held prisoner by Viking King Rothgar (John Hurt), but soon an alliance is forged. As the hunt for the Morween leads to more casualties, Kainen must convince the warring Viking tribes to band together to destroy it before they lose everything. Other cast members include: Sophia Myles as Viking princess Freya, Jack Huston as Wulfric and Ron Perlman as Gunnar.
