Her is an original love story that is set in Los Angeles in 2025. Theodore Twombly is a lonely writer who makes a living penning touching, personal letters for other people, having a knack to express emotions others cannot. Heartbroken and depressed over the impending divorce from his childhood sweetheart Catherine, he purchases a new state-of-the-art computer operating system with artificial intelligence, capable of learning and evolving. Upon initiation, the intuitive and unique entity presents itself as “Samantha,” a bright female voice who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. Slowly she brings the introverted Theodore out of his shell and even encourages him to begin dating again. Taking Samantha everywhere he goes, their relationship quickly turns intimate. While he teaches her about being human, she gives him the strength to live again anew -- able to deal with the emotions of real life. Meanwhile, his longtime friend Amy is also going through a divorce of her own and has become close friends with another female operating system who has helped her to rediscover happiness. However as Theodore and Amy become more and more reliant on their respective operating systems, their relationships become quite complicated, especially when it is time for the operating systems to have a firmware upgrade.

The DVD and Blu-ray include “Love in the Modern Age” featurette. Exclusive to Blu-ray are two additional special features: “A Short Film by Lance Bangs: The Untitled Rick Howard Project: Creating Her” and “How Do You Share Your Life with Somebody.”
