Dr. Ian Smith The Doctors

If you've ever struggled with a monotonous diet that failed to work, Dr. Ian Smith says he has the solution. On the Feb. 18 episode of "The Doctors," Dr. Ian explained how his "Super Shred Diet" is designed to melt away the fat through the magic of timing and calorie confusion. Get the skinny here on the weight loss secrets of his new book: "Super Shred: The Big Results Diet: 4 Weeks 20 Pounds Lose It Faster!" (click for details).

The detailed diet involves two key factors: Meal timing and portion control. Dr. Ian has calculated the meal times and amounts throughout the four-week plan so that it maximizes your fat-burning metabolism while stabilizing your insulin levels. Result: Maximum weight loss in minimal time.

A sample schedule for timing your meals and snacks:

  • 7:30 A.M. Awake
  • 8:30 A.M. Meal 1
  • 10:00 A.M. Snack 1
  • 11:30 A.M. Snack 2
  • 12:30 P.M. Meal 2
  • 4:30 P.M. Meal 3
  • 7:30 P.M. Meal 4

Each week on the plan provides different combinations of food and beverages. Although flexibility is built into the diet, some items are essential, as is making the approved substitutions, says Dr. Ian.
