Maximilian Schell (1930-2014)

Maximilian Schell passed away this past weekend and we mourn the loss. Mr. Schell was born in Austria but moved to Switzerland at an early age. Austria at the time was under Nazi control and his family just wasn't into all that.

He would begin his career in German language films and TV and would make it to Hollywood in 1958. He would be involved in the movie of a 'Judgment at Nuremberg' and would later play the role of the German defense attorney in the film. He would win the best actor award for his this role.

Mr. Schell would stay in the states and make more movies and also star on Broadway. He would become a Director and would tell people how much more he would love to behind the camera than in front of it. He is probably one of the most respected German speaking actors in non-German roles than any other person around. He was very successful in his career and was loved by many for his roles.

He was great with Shakespeare and loved performing the Bards work. He loved working and living in the United States as he felt he had more freedom to move around. He was the Godfather to Angelina Jolie and had been married twice. He was father to Nastassja Schell.

He would receive awards and accolades from his peers but those accomplishments were not what he lived for . He enjoyed his craft and loved to work. He would die in his beloved Austria but I think he was just as happy living in the States. Mr. Schell will be truly missed and his work will live on in film. R.I.P.
