MaxFund will celebrate 25th anniversay with a series of special events

Anniversary celebration - MaxFund will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and will commemorate the mark with special events. Here's three of them:

* 2013 MaxFund calendars are being marked down to $8 (from the normal $15.) The calendars feature the work of portrait photographer Mark Stevens. Visit MaxFund's website for a link to the order page.

* Lone Star Steakhouse locations throughout Colorado will be benefiting MaxFund in a "Dine and Donate" benefit Jan. 11-14. When you order meals, 15 per cent of your receipt will donated to MaxFund. Dining hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, January 11 through Monday, January 14. Information

* MaxFund is holding a Black Kitty Party Open House on Saturday, Jan. 19 to celebrate its black cats and kittens It will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cat Shelter, 720 W. 10th Ave., Denver. Shelters around the country, including MaxFund, find that black cats need extra help to find their forever homes.

New shelter contest - The ASPCA is now accepting applications in the 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, with $600,000 in prize grants to help shelters save more homeless cats and dogs. In 2011, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley won the $100,000 top prize. Last year’s competing shelters saved more than 56,000 cats and dogs during the contest, an increase of 14,376 over the same period in 2011. To apply

Puppy adoptions - Colorado Puppy Rescue will hold its next adoption event Saturday, Jan. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Petco store at 1-25 and Cololrado in Denver.

Pet telethon - The Dumb Friends League will hold its Pledges for Pets Telethon on Sunday, Jan. 27 from noon to 5 p.m. on FOX31/KDVR. All funds raised will help the Dumb Friends League care for more than 24,000 homeless animals this coming year. Information.

Dog show - The 28th Annual Rocky Mountain Cluster Dog Show is coming up Thursday, Feb 14 1at 10 a.m. at the National Western Complex in Denver (Expo Hall (Level 2) Information: http://www.coloradokennelclub.org
