The game was originally scheduled to be released early in 2014 but it looks like the development and certification processes ended earlier than anticipated as Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood is now available from the Xbox Store for $14.99.

The Unity engine game comes from Danish developer Pressplay and is a re-imagining/follow-up to Max and the Magic Marker which was originally released on the Wii before making its way to nearly every other platform except the Xbox 360. Microsoft stepped in to purchase the indie developer in 2012 as it was in the middle of development of the game to make it an Xbox One exclusive title.

The Curse of the Brotherhood is a 2.5D platformer that has various puzzles players must solve to help Max rescue his younger brother, Felix, who is trapped in a hostile and fantastical world. Max is armed only with a Magic Marker as makes his way across deserts, eerie lantern-lit bogs, ancient temples and lush green forests to find his little brother and bring him back home. Along the way, he'll learn new ways to manipulate the environment with his Magic Marker to overcome obstacles.

An Xbox 360 release for Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood will come at a later date.
