Did you ever want a puppy or kitten for Christmas? What a joy to have a little wriggling pet under the Christmas tree. Of course, more mature dogs and cats ease into family life more smoothly and with just as much reward.
Max Fund is one of the many shelters in the Denver area looking to match pets with their human guardians. There are a few key differences at Max Fund, though. For one, they’re a no-kill shelter. An animal stays with them until they go home with their new family, whether that takes days, weeks or months. Or years, heaven forbid.
Another key difference is the application process. Max Fund is dedicated to finding forever homes for the dogs and cats in their care. As such, the adoption process starts out with a comprehensive application that includes personal references. They also call landlords in the case of renters. For those who get their applications approved – and not all do – the next step in an interview with an adoption coordinator. For applicants who pass that stage, Max Fund arranges the pick up.
Max Fund also offers affordable pet care. The Max Fund Wellness center, located across the street from the cat shelter on 10th and Inca, offers veterinary care at a significantly reduced cost. Services include typical vet offerings except cases that require extensive hospitalization. People can bring their pets in to the attractive, clean facility for vaccinations, spaying/neutering or even surgery. In fact, the clinic has a state-of-the art laser that works very well for therapeutic treatments. The clinic offers both walk-in services and appointments.
To introduce potential adopters to the animals, Max Fund hosted an open house on December 14. During the open house they offered refreshments, both a Christmas gift and a bake sale and shelter tours. Oh, and all the pets were out looking for their new guardians.
Max Fund is always looking for volunteers – and donations, of course. All proceeds benefit the shelters and, most importantly, the dogs and cats. Gifts of food are also greatly appreciated.
Every pet deserves a loving forever home.
