According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, Calgary Stampeders punter Rob Maver of Brampton, Ontario has been named the Canadian Football League's special teams player of the week for week 12 of the season.
On Friday evening at Calgary's McMahon Stadium, Maver averaged 48.8 yards on five punts and threw a 31 yard pass to Matt Walker for a first down on a fake punt as the Calgary Stampeders defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 26-22.
With the win, the Stampeders improved to 9-2 and the Tiger-Cats fell to 5-6.
Week 12 of the Canadian Football League season also saw the Calgary Stampeders clinch a playoff spot. Calgary became the first team in the CFL this year to book their ticket for a playoff game on Saturday when the Edmonton Eskimos defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 25-7. The Stampeders are guaranteed to finish both ahead of the Eskimos and Blue Bombers this season. Edmonton and Winnipeg share 2-9 records.
