Mavado arrested & charged with assault, out on bail

Popular Dancehall entertainer, David “Mavado” Brooks was arrested & formally charged on Wednesday with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm as well as malicious destruction of property for an incident that took place in Montego Bay on Friday.

Mavado turned himself in to the Freeport Police in St. James alongside attorney at law, Martyn Thomas at around 2:45pm Jamaican time, answered questions regarding said incident & later posted bail & was released yesterday evening. The amount of the singjay’s bail was not released but Thomas insisted that it "was in a reasonable sum.” Mavado will appear in court on August 10th to answer the three charges. When asked why it took Mavado four days to turn himself in, Thomas said, "Because of his understanding of the situation he was actually surprised that it reached this level and when he saw his name paraded in the newspapers he realized how serious it was.”

According to Thomas, Mavado claimed that the incident; an alleged attack on a 51 year old man & his 17 year old son in Belmont, St. James was "actually surprised that the incident reached this level." Thomas also intimated that Mavado’s can’t wait to tell his side of the story. "He is anxious to go before the court and when he goes there, his lawyer Christopher Tavares-Finson and himself will have a lot to say about the incident but allegations were made and he will be there to defend it,” Thomas said.

Meanwhile, a popular Montego Bay promoter, reportedly affiliated with Mavado is still being held in custody after he was caught attempting to bribe the complainants with JA$500,000 in order to drop the case. The affiliate was attempting to make the exchange with the men at the Fairview Shopping Centre parking lot in Montego Bay but enlisted the services of a taxi man to carry them to a secluded location to carry out the deal. The taxi man turned out to be an undercover law enforcement officer & the man was taken into custody. His money & his white BMW were seized along with a firearm.
