ABC’s long running soap “General Hospital” has got itself a new mob heiress and her name is Ava Jerome. The actress who portrays this complicated character is none other than Maura West. She has already won two daytime Emmys for her role as Carly Tenney on “As the World Turns” and may be on her way to another one soon. The actress spoke to TV Guide on Sept. 13 as she dished on how much she enjoys her new job so far.
The mother-of-five thinks her character is cool and awesome. She says that she is not worried if the viewers end up hating Ava. Every soap opera needs someone that the audience loves to hate and she is quickly becoming that person. The Jerome’s goes way back as the mob family that is out to get Sonny Corinthos. Now the son (Julian Jerome) and daughter (Ava) of mob boss Victor Jerome are both back in Port Charles to take over their territory. No one knows just yet exactly who these two really are, but they will soon enough.
The 41-year-old actress’s portrayal of the daughter of a crime lord has already won fans over. Her character was only supposed to be for a few short episodes. However, she was put on contract before she even stepped foot onscreen. It seems that she went from just being the mother of Kiki Jerome into a sassy, dangerous woman that viewers love to hate.
West is happy to be stepping into Port Charles and says that everyone on set has embraced her into their world, especially soap vets Tony Geary and Jane Elliot. It sounds like she gets along quite well with the cast and is thrilled to be a part of the daytime drama’s 50th year of greatness.
