Matthies on 'Wolfenstein' Nazis: Will be a true representation of Nazi ideology

The villains in the upcoming Nazi slaying first-person shooter Wolfenstein: The New Order are a true representation of Nazi ideology.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Examiner about what inspired The New Order's antagonists -- Wilhelm (Deathshead) and Frau -- developer MachineGames' Creative Director Jens Matthies says the studio wanted to explore these characters "on a more profound level," thus leading to Nazism.

"Wolfenstein games have always had larger than life antagonists. For us it was very important to honor this legacy, so that they feel like proper Wolfenstein enemies," he said. "But we also wanted to explore their personalities on a more profound level and make them truly representative of Nazi ideology. There’s an air of authenticity in these characters that shine through the larger than life exterior."

Wolfenstein: The New Order is slated for release on May 20 in North America and May 23 in Europe for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
