One of the best parts of Night of Joy at the Magic Kingdom is hearing from the artists on the background of their songs and inspirations and their personal testimonies. For example, this year I learned the stories behind two of my favorite Matthew West songs, "Hello My Name Is" and "Forgiveness." He even had Renee Napier and Eric Smallridge, inspirations for that latter song, join him on stage as special guests after telling the story of how Eric killed Renee's daughter in a drunk driving accident.
That was a very powerful and somber moment, but Matthew West has plenty of humor in his shows, too. He performed an unofficial Night of Joy theme song that had the crowd in stitches. Click the video accompanying this article to see it for yourself.
West performed on the Galaxy Stage in Tomorrowland this year, but in 2014 he gets a big promotion as he takes the main stage in front of Cinderella Castle. Bands like MercyMe and Hillsong United are coming next year, too, so save September 5 and 6 on your calendar.
