Somewhat inexplicably, Matthew Stafford didn't make the Pro Bowl, even as an alternate, despite having one of the best seasons of all time. He was a major reason the Detroit Lions returned to the playoffs for the first time in a decade this season. However, at the NFL's award show Saturday, Stafford finally got some recognition for his year. Stafford was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
In Stafford's first two seasons in the NFL, he was severely hampered by injuries. Last season, he only started three games, and only made it all the way through one game. This season, however, he was able to play in all of Detroit's games, and made good on the promise that led to him being the first overall pick in 2009. He threw for 5,038 yards, 41 touchdowns, 16 interceptions, and he had a 63.5 completion percentage.
While this is nice for Stafford, hopefully he is never in the position to win this game again. Instead, maybe he has an MVP award in his future. Speaking of which, Aaron Rodgers won the MVP this season, while Drew Brees was the Offensive Player of the Year. This, of course, makes no sense. Brees got 43 of the votes for his award, with Rodgers getting seven, while Rodgers took 48 of the MVP votes while Brees got two. Did the same 50 people vote on this award? If so, the ones who voted Rodgers for MVP and Brees for Offensive Player of the Year should have their votes taken away from them for this incredibly stupid decision. Nonsense. Utter nonsense. Anyway, congratulations again, Stafford.
