When Mathew McConaughey needed to lose weight, he called the expert that is Tom Hanks. People reported on October 16, 2013, the actor called Hanks and a nutritionist to be able to lose weight from 185 to under 140 pounds for his role of a man coping with an HIV diagnoses.
Matthew told People he talked a long time with Tom Hanks about what it took for him to lose weight for Castaway and Philadelphia. After talking to Hanks and a nutritionist, he figured when he was about 145 pounds, he would stop losing weight.
The star lost 50 pounds for the role, weighing 135 at the end of his weight loss journey. He said he achieved his weight loss by eating well, just only half as much as he normally eats. Matthew claims, he is aware of the risk involved with weight fluctuations, putting him at risk for diabetes and other diseases. He also claimed he never lost energy or felt tired, in fact, the opposite effect happened. He felt more energy than he has in years.
