Flophouse Radio on KABC – October 15, 2011Listen to Roger Rodd and special guest David Chicotsky, Bluff Magazine's 2008 Player of the Year, discuss all things poker during this very entertaining and informative show
Listen to the highly praised and hugely entertaining and informative debut of Flophouse Radio hosted by Roger Rodd on KABC 790 in Los Angeles.
It’s Jim Rome meets Tom Leykis, but the subject isn’t sports or poontang, it’s POKER!
Roger Rodd brings his four decades of pro level playing and seven years of teaching and coaching poker, and blends it with twenty-one years of professional stand-up comedy. This combination clearly places him alone at the top as a poker show host.
Following an opening salvo of Roger’s opinionated editorializing, the phone lines will open — with this admonition: Those who try to challenge Roger will be shown how this Caucasian comedian stood his ground to a standing ovation at the world famous (and infamous!) Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. While dissent is always invited, all poker related questions and topics will also be welcome.
Flophouse Radio is the “absolute cinch” for poker advice, discourse, or conflict, and it’s always fueled by pure entertainment. Call or tune in, it’s the safest bet in the game!

About Roger Rodd, Host
Had it with watching Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb boring the swallows back to Capistrano with their stock, cliché ridden observations about poker? The redundant glut of televised, ennui fueled talking heads, has virtually turned America’s fascination for the game into another version of THE FISHING CHANNEL. Enter Flophouse Radio hosted by Roger Rodd!
He is not just a singularly credentialed professional comedian and actor, he has been a top level winning poker player for decades. Rodd is not only Hollywood’s “Instructor To The Stars”, for the past three years he resides as the poker teacher at the world’s largest venue for the game, The Commerce Casino.
Combine these elements and you have a long awaited forum where YOU can learn, interact, or debate with an expert. Otherwise stated in Roger’s words:
“During my senior year at Stanford University, where I graduated with honors, I paid my room and board with poker winnings gained in fraternity house and private poker games. Around this time, LIFE Magazine ran an article describing the new poker game ‘Hold Me Darlin’, as the Texas high roller’s preference to ‘Five Card Stud’. I then began to study, play, and introduce into private homes this game that would eventually be named ‘Texas Holdem’. My extensive background and long term status as a winning player both qualify and validate my many years spent on the circuit.”
Since the “Gold Rush” of the late 1980s, when Holdem came to California casinos, there has been no bigger boost to poker than the combination of Internet gambling and televised tournaments. Poker in America now enjoys its largest popularity since its inception.
The gaping void of originality, intellect, and content on this globally popular pastime has now thankfully been filled.
