NBC has already done everything they can to damage Ann Curry's career, but they don't seem to be finished yet. However, according to Radar Online on Jan. 14, Matt Lauer has stepped up and made a plea to let Curry leave the network for a better job elsewhere.
It was in the summer of 2012 that NBC unceremoniously removed Curry from her spot on "Today," rumored to be at the request of Lauer himself. When she left her position, many fans reacted in anger and Curry ended up relegated to very small roles for the network.
The move killed the network's once prized morning show. Since NBC removed Curry from the air, the show's ratings have declined dramatically and now ABC's "Good Morning America" regularly dominates the top spot in the ratings every morning. As a result, it looks like NBC is holding a grudge, despite the fact it was their mistake that led to the show's downfall.
CNN wants to hire Ann Curry to work for them, and has a hope that she can take over Anderson Cooper's current 9 p.m. EST timeslot. However, NBC stands in the way because they have not accepted Curry's request to be released from her contract. Since Curry is doing next to nothing for NBC, this looks like nothing more than a vengeful move by NBC.
Matt Lauer said that he wants Curry released from her contract so she can move on and do what she is best at, in a job she enjoys. He said that is the move that is best for all parties involved, and in this case, he is right.
