Matt Lauer's job in jeopardy: Is NBC planning to ditch 'Today Show' host?

Is Matt Lauer about to get fired from NBC's "Today"?

The New York Daily News reports that Lauer's job might be in jeopardy, with the topic headlining their showbiz page on March 15, 2013.

"Latest reports about ‘Today’ could signal end to Matt Lauer’s reign as anchor"

The morning show is reportedly falling behind in the ratings and trailing "Good Morning America."

Apparently Matt Lauer has been blamed for the show having the worst press in the decades that it has been on television, especially after Ann Curry's firing last year.

In a lengthy article in the New York Times published on March 15, 2013, an NBC insider states that NBC is doing "damage control" for Lauer, who has taken a lot of heat since Ann Curry was canned.

However, there are conflicting reports about Matt Lauer leaving the show.

Another NBC insider tells the New York Daily News that the whole story is "fabricated" and there are no plans to remove the long-time host from the morning show.

Perhaps the job in jeopardy rumors are about are more in line with the gossip that Matt Lauer may take over Alex Trebek's hosting job on the popular game show, "Jeopardy."

Trebek plans to steps down in 2016 and the New York Post states that Lauer may take over.

The timing sounds about right. Lauer's contract with "Today" ends in 2015, leaving him wide open to start giving answers instead of asking questions.
