Matt Lauer on Ann Curry: Lauer blames NBC for Curry fallout

Matt Lauer on Ann Curry: Matt Lauer is finally speaking out about Ann Curry’s ouster from the “Today” show, a move that has resulted in NBC taking a bad hit to their public image and Matt himself the victim of taunts by strangers in public.

In talking to Howard Kurtz of the Daily Beast, Matt says that while the decision to let Ann Curry walk away from NBC hurt many fans, it was the way NBC handled the decision publicly that got so many people upset.

“I don’t think the show and the network handled the transition well," Lauer tells Kurtz. "You don’t have to be Einstein to know that. It clearly did not help us. We were seen as a family, and we didn’t handle a family matter well.”

Matt Lauer himself took a large brunt of the blame for Curry’s ouster from NBC. In fact, it’s been reported that Matt was yelled at by fans on the street who blame him for being the direct reason for Ann’s departure from the “Today” show.

According to the Huffington Post, it gets even worse. When Ann found out that she would essentially be fired from her “Today” show gig, she cried on the air. NBC execs were reportedly miffed at the fact that Curry showed so much emotion on television, which of course provided her with a lot of favor amongst the sympathetic fans at home.
