Matt & Kim to Play Czar's Imperial Ballroom, Yeah Yeah!

The first time I heard Matt & Kim was from a music blog's recommendation. The person posted a link to "Yeah Yeah (Flosstradamus remix)" and that was all I needed to hear; I was hooked. It was dancey, edgy, and unlike anything I was hearing at that time. I immediately put everything M&K I could find on my iPod and was pleased when other co-workers not only liked it, but had it on their iPods too! The music Matt & Kim creates is like a dance party for adults; all the poppy fun minus all the cheesiness.

The dance-punk duo has played the Tampa-St. Pete area numerous times over the past couple of years, but unfortunately I have missed them EVERY-SINGLE-TIME! This Tuesday, June 7th...I plan on breaking this tradition and finally getting to experience Johnson and Schifino in their full glory. Aestheticized Presents has put together a bill that will become the soundtrack to your entire summer; not only is Matt & Kim headlining, but opening for the Brooklyn-based couple are The Thermals and DJ Autobot (of Flosstradamus).

Releasing five albums in eight years and working with musical big wigs such as Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie and Brendan Canty of Fugazi, The Thermals indie punk sound is a force to be reckoned with. The Portland, Oregon based trio creates a combination of traditional rock music with lo-fi indie sensibilities, laden with political and religious imagery.

Curt Cameruci, better known as DJ Autobot, is half of Chicago DJ duo Flosstradamus. Garnering fame from their remixes (Little John and Three 6 Mafia's "Act a Fool" and the aforementioned Matt & Kim's "Yeah Yeah") and playing festivals (Coachella, Pitchfork, and South by Southwest among others), the two  earned a spot on Chromeo's international tour in 2007.

The show is being held at Czar Vodka Bar in their Imperial Ballroom. This location, in my opinion, is the perfect setting for these acts, making it seem more like an intimate house show than just another stop on a national tour. Tickets are $20 and are going like hotcakes! The show is all ages and doors open at 8pm; don't be the one person in Tampa that misses it!
