"The X Factor" U.K. 2010 winner Matt Cardle has announced several autograph events for his third album, "Porcelain," which is set for release in the U.K. on Oct. 28, 2013. Meanwhile, most critics' reviews for "Porcelain" have been positive.
Cardle's first album, "Letters," debuted at No. 2 in the U.K. when it was released in 2011 by Syco Music/Columbia Records. Cardle and Syco/Columbia announced that they had parted ways in May 2012. In October 2012, Cardle's second album, "The Fire" (released on independent label So What Recordings), debuted at No. 8 in the U.K.
Digital Spy had a free streaming preview of the entire "Porcelain" album a week before the album's release. Cardle is self-releasing the album.
The "Porcelain" album's singles so far are "Loving You" (a duet with Mel C) and "When You Were My Girl," which have been getting airplay on BBC Radio 2. "Loving You" was a No. 14 hit on the U.K. singles chart.
On Oct. 24, 2103, Cardle performed and did an interview on ITV's "Daybreak."
Meanwhile, critics have mostly praised the "Porcelain" album in reviews. Here are excerpts from some of the reviews:
"'Porcelain' is an excellent reminder of Matt's underestimated talents as he wrote, produced and played most of the instruments in the songs himself in addition to performing his usual vocal duties. Matt is refusing to be a manufactured pop puppet and is sticking to what he knows best by showing off his impressive voice with everything from rock, pop, funk, soul, gospel and blues interspersed throughout the album." (4 out of 5 stars)
"Pushing both his vocals and the range of instruments and beats used for this offering, Matt is back and better than he's ever been. With pop bordering on rock, and a sprinkling of soul, he appeals to a wider audience than he has before, and it's clear that he was right when he said he'd 'learnt so much" from his previous two compilations.'" (4 out of 5 stars)
"It seems cheap and frankly, rather predictable to slam an X-Factor winner’s music purely because they are an X-Factor winner; by now we all know that many critics are not huge fans of Simon Cowell’s meat churner for success in the music industry. But it’s not because of X-Factor that this album loses validity, it’s because it’s dull, predictable and after a few songs becomes truly irritating. There’s only so many poor imitations of 90s era Justin Timberlake 'Oohs' and hums that can be heard before it begins to force your face to cringe." (4 out of 10 stars)
"His third album, 'Porcelain,' only further confirms that his place alongside Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson on the X-Factor scrapheap is entirely undeserved. Indeed, co-written with a string of soulful singer-songwriters including Jamie Scott, Connor Reeves and Brian McKnight, its ten tracks combine the acoustic pop leanings of last year's 'The Fire' with a new-found R&B sensibility that perfectly suits his soaring falsetto tones."
