On August 24 The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that actor Matt Bomer has landed a role on "American Horror Story: Freak Show," the next chapter of the popular FX horror series. The exact role that Bomer will play is being kept under wraps, but show runner Ryan Murphy described the character as "warped." Bomer is most well known for playing the role of slick con artist Neil Caffrey on "White Collar," which is about to air its sixth and final season on USA.
Bomer and Murphy have previously worked together before, when Bomer guest starred on the FOX series "Glee" as Blaine's older brother. Bomer also appeared in the critically acclaimed HBO movie "The Normal Heart" which Murphy directed. Bomer will reportedly star in at least one episode of the new season, and will be one of many new characters. The new season, which will premiere on October 8, will take place entirely in a carnival setting.
Other newcomers to the series include the world's smallest living woman Jyoti Amge, Wes Bentley as Eddie, Michael Chiklis as the strongman Wendell del Toledo, Finn Wittrock, John Carroll Lynch as Twisty the clown killer, and Patti LaBelle who is expected to appear in at least four episodes. Many of the characters will have connection to each other, either through marriage or past encounters. More roles are expected to be announced in the future, since filming is currently underway.
They join a cast that already includes Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy, Angela Bassett, and Gabourey Sidibe. Jessica Lange will also return for her fourth and final season, before she retires from acting. Paulson will play Bette and Dot Tattler, a join of conjoined twins, while Lange will play the owner of the freak show named Elsa Mars, who is a German expatriate. Sidibe will play a well educated local girl who returns to the town for family reasons at the same time as the freak show.
On August 24 Entertainment Weekly reported that the new season will take place in Jupiter, Florida and the carnival will happen in the year 1952. The series will focus on an odd carnival act that arrives in the town, and how the performers survive in the struggling business. Some strange occurrences are also happening in the town and to the citizens. The thirteen episode season will premiere in October, and the first teaser for the series doesn't reveal much other than that the episodes will feature eccentric looking performers.
