Matilda, the famous Algonquin cat, will be hosting her annual birthday party, this year themed “Matilda’s Debutante Ball”, at her home in the Algonquin on Wednesday, August 10. A $25 donation is requested for North Shore Animal League, the organization that rescued Matilda. An NSAL adoption van will be on-site from 3:00 – 7:00 PM.
Matilda will be presented by Sandy Robins, Pet Lifestyle Expert and author of “For the Love of Cats” and “Fabulous Felines”. The festivities begin at 5:00 PM with Matilda’s birthday reception and Meow Wear Fashion Show. All dog lovers are invited, but pets of all species are asked to stay at home, so as not to disturb the feline models. This is always a fashion show worth seeing, with amazing costumes gracefully modeled by beautiful (and tolerant!) cats, so take plenty of pictures to show your canine companions when you get home.
RSVP to Matilda at matildaalgonquincat@algonquinhotel.com, but beware that Matilda may express a feline attitude towards canines in her response. When I emailed that Celebrity Magician Matt Wayne would be in attendance, she asked me if he could make annoying dogs disappear. No offense taken - there’s a party for everybody in Manhattan! In fact, Bideawee is hosting a wine tasting event on the same evening, from 4-7 PM at 67 Wine. Party hoppers may want to go to the Bideawee event first, then head on over to the Algonquin to celebrate with Matilda.
