The Ontario Reign, back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, have announced goaltender Mathias Niederberger has been loaned to Ontario by the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs.
Niederberger, a 21-year-old goalie, was originally signed by the Monarchs this summer. He spent his 2012-13 season with the OHL’s Barrie Colts. In 56 games, Niederberger had a 35-12-3 record including four shutouts, and maintained a 0.933 save percentage and a 2.34 goals-against average. Niederberger began his junior career with the Colts in the 2011-12 season, compiling a 29-14-3 record in 49 games.
A native of Dusseldorf, Germany, Niederberger also represented his country at the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, Division 1A, where the 5-foot-11, 170-pound goaltender led the Germans to a Gold Medal, while receiving the IIHF’s Best Goaltender recognition.
